Jay Weinberg has written a 10,000 word “tell-all” piece titled “One Foot In Front Of The Other” for Drumeo. This article is about his life and story, detailing what it was like growing up with ‘uncle’ Bruce Springsteen and his legendary dad (Max Weinberg, E Street Band drummer).
“When we discussed my approach to learning those couple hundred songs, Bruce taught me that it’s okay not to learn “parts.” I mean…you should make a concerted effort to play well, and to understand where those songs came from, and why they were arranged that way…but we’re not on stage playing parts. We’re on stage playing music.”
In addition, Jay gives practical advice for up-and-coming drummers, talks about joining world-famous metal band Slipknot, as well as his plans for the future.
On joining Slipknot: “It was a lot of responsibility — to approach such a heavy moment with care and respect — but to also show up and kick the door down.
