Mapex Drums is thrilled to announce the addition of Billy Hammett, the dynamic drummer for the Kris Barras Band, to their esteemed artist roster. Beginning his drumming journey at the age of 10, Billy has evolved into a versatile percussionist, drawing inspiration from legendary figures such as John Bonham, Jojo Mayer, Nicko Mcbrain, and Ray Luzier. His passion for a diverse range of musical styles has propelled him to perform with various bands across genres, including Rock, Punk, Reggae, Funk, and Blues.
Under the tutelage of acclaimed drummers like Jason Bowld, Justin Welch, and James Hester, Billy further honed his skills and pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours at BIMM Bristol. This educational journey laid the foundation for numerous UK and European tours and live TV performances with high-profile acts.
Currently serving as a full-time member of the Kris Barras Band, Billy Hammett continues to leave his mark on stages across the UK and Europe. Notable performances include supporting renowned acts like Black Stone Cherry and Thunder, gracing prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena, and making memorable appearances at various festivals.
In addition to his vibrant career on the road, Billy dedicates time to teaching drums at his home studio in Barnstaple, Devon, showcasing his commitment to nurturing the next generation of drummers.
Billy’s drumming artistry is showcased on his Mapex kit – the Maple/Walnut Saturn Evolution in Gun Metal Grey, comprising a 22×16 kick drum, 10×7 and 12×8 rack toms, and a 16×14 floor tom. He complements his setup with Black Panther Persuader 14″x6.5″ Hammered Brass and Metallion 14″x5.5″ Brass Snares.
