D.H. Peligro (July 9, 1959 – October 28, 2022), Drummer For The Dead Kennedys & Red Hot Chili Peppers Dies At 63

D.H. Peligro, a drummer for punk rock icons the Dead Kennedys and formerly the Red Hot Chili Peppers, died Friday from a head injury, his band announced. He was 63.

“Police on the scene stated that he died from trauma to the head caused by an accidental fall,” a statement from the Dead Kennedys read. “Arrangements are pending and will be announced in the coming days. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Peligro passed away in his home in Los Angeles, according to the statement.

  • 1981 Peligro joined The Dead Kennedys. He played on “In God We Trust, Inc.”, “Plastic Surgery Disasters, Frankenchrist,” and “Bedtime for Democracy”.
  • 1986 The Dead Kennedys broke up.
  • 1988 Peligro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers replacing drummer Jack Irons. Due to his ongoing drug and alcohol issues, the band decided to fire Peligro in November 1988.
  • 2001 A form of The Dead Kennedys reformed and started to perform.
  • 2008 Peligro took a hiatus from The Dead Kennedys, citing the need for time off from touring. The brief hiatus lasted until June 2009 when Peligro rejoined the band.
  • 2019 The Dead Kennedys released DK40 – live recording celebrating 40 years.
