Drumming News :
TAMA Drums has announced the long-awaited Anika Nilles Signature Snare Drum (AN1465), a 14″ x 6.5″ instrument designed to capture the power, depth, and groove-driven musicality of the acclaimed drummer.
The result of more than two years of development and refinement, the signature snare was built around three key goals: “deep low end, clear snare wire definition, and a look inspired by her love of vintage snares.” The result is a 1.2mm seamless aluminum shell that combines warmth and projection with the strong low-end response Nilles sought.
The 6.5″ depth provides added body and depth, while four grooves in the center of the shell increase rigidity. A slightly extended bearing edge further strengthens the shell while helping preserve aluminum’s natural resonance. Paired with TAMA’s Sound Arc Hoops, the design produces a focused fundamental tone with a balance of clarity, presence, and projection.
Another standout feature is the newly developed internal “Mod-Tone Muffler.” With a simple touch, players can engage or disengage the mute, while a single dial allows them to adjust the amount of pressure. This gives drummers a quick and intuitive way to move between open, resonant tones and more controlled sounds.
For Nilles, the instrument is about more than technical specifications. It is designed to reflect the expressive depth and intricate grooves that have become hallmarks of her playing. As TAMA describes it, the signature snare is “the ideal instrument for players who aspire to step closer to the complex grooves and rich expression that define Anika’s artistry.”
With its combination of vintage-inspired aesthetics, powerful low end, detailed snare response, and versatile muffling system, the TAMA Anika Nilles Signature Snare Drum AN1465 offers a highly distinctive instrument for drummers looking to bring greater depth and expression to their playing.
