Drumming News :
The Missing Rudiments, by George Lawrence, reveals all the fundamental sticking patterns that drummers use.
If you’ve ever wondered why four stroke rolls, ruffs, and flat flams are missing from the standard forty American rudiments, this book explains why. George Lawrence’s exhaustive research of ancient rudimental systems and instruction books uncovered many stickings that should be in every rudiment list.
The complete list of 125+ basic rudiments plus many exercises are a must for every teacher and student of drum set and snare drum. They are laid out in a very logical order that makes learning them simpler.
The book presents a clear and complete explanation of all rudimental stickings based on the logic of the original rudiments and filling in the stickings that were not included—but are commonly used, especially by drum set players. The first half of the book includes complete stickings for single-stroke, double-stroke, tap roll, buzz stroke, diddle, ruff, drag, flam, and flat flam stickings, which the second half introduces and demonstrates sticking groups, permutations, and variations on the various patterns.
The book comes with video demonstrations of many of the examples.
The Missing Rudiments is an interesting, fun, and useful addition to every drummer’s practice library, and a valuable study on the art of rudimental snare drumming.
