Hudson Music Releases “The Paradiddle Guide” By Warren de Melo

Drumming News :

A paradiddle book that goes beyond being just an “exercise” book, The Paradiddle Guide by Author/Educator Warren de Melo provides a focused exploration of utilizing the four main paradiddle groups (single, double, triple, and paradiddle-diddle) in a more musical and groove-based way. This approach allows intermediate & professional drummers to incorporate these grooves into their own music.

Once drummers master every chapter of The Paradiddle Guide, they can incorporate the concepts into their playing in creative ways. This can lead to the development of unique beats, fills, and solos. Encouraging creativity through paradiddles enables drummers to express themselves musically, fostering a lifelong love for music and performance.

This digital book includes audio files that enable serious students to play along with Warren while gradually developing finesse and feel, all while consistently maintaining the dynamic interplay between kick, hi-hat, snare, and in some cases, even the ride cymbal.

A unique section of the book is devoted to playing the single paradiddles with the feet while simultaneously performing 8th and 16th note grooves with the hands, thereby enhancing the student’s rhythmic and dynamic coordination without compromising feel and groove. The four-way independence developed by combining hands & feet will even enable any session drummer to perform overdubbed drum parts live.

Warren’s book will enhance creative expression using paradiddles not just as a rudiment to warm up backstage before a gig, but to help drummers understand rhythm and timing. As they practice, they learn to subdivide beats and incorporate these grooves into their playing especially in pop, funk, rock, and fusion music.

Now available through the Hudson Music digital bookstore, The Paradiddle Guide features 32 grooves designed to elevate every drummer’s vocabulary, three- and four-way independence, hand and foot technique, and dynamic coordination. It also includes a practice journal and manuscript paper for students to write down their goals and develop new groove ideas.
