Drumming News :
For the debut edition of DW’s On the Drums digital feature, DW sat down with DW artist Luke Holland to discuss the journey that has made him one of today’s most versatile drummers.
From learning his first groove in a neighbor’s garage to mowing lawns for his first drum kit, Holland’s career has been fueled by curiosity and determination. Years later, signing with DW marked a full-circle moment after growing up admiring the company’s drums in music stores.
DW: Tell us about your drumming journey.
Luke Holland: “Our next-door neighbor taught me my first groove, and after that I saved up for my first kit by mowing lawns.”
The conversation also explores how his setup has evolved, memorable moments on tour, the importance of staying healthy, and how playing with RÜFÜS DU SOL taught him that great drumming isn’t always about technicality.
“It was not about how many notes,” Holland says. “It was purely about groove.”
Today, Holland continues pushing creative boundaries through recording sessions, video game music, and new collaborations. His advice for fellow musicians is as relevant as ever:
“If you think you’re killing it and you’re the best… you’re in the wrong place.”
