British jazz-fusion musician Gary Husband has undergone successful spine surgery after experiencing nerve problems that threatened his ability to perform as one of the rare musicians equally accomplished on drums and keyboards.
On September 5, 2026, Husband announced through his Instagram account that he had been hospitalized for a five-hour Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) procedure. The operation, performed by surgeon Mr. Rohit Shetty, was intended to relieve compressed nerves affecting Husband’s right arm and wrist.
The procedure represents an important turning point for the veteran musician, who had been dealing with the physical problem while working on recording sessions. Husband had previously expressed fear that the nerve damage could ultimately bring his career as a professional dual-instrumentalist to an end.

Husband has described the period leading up to the operation as an understandably frightening one. His upcoming Orbital Band project is particularly significant because it represents his return to leading a drum-focused group after a lengthy period.
