Former Fear Factory drummer Raymond Herrera has returned behind the kit after an apparent 16-year break from actively playing drums.
Herrera was recently featured in a studio video shared by Angst Fabrik on September 7, laying down drum parts for the project led by former Fear Factory bassist and vocalist Christian Olde Wolbers. The footage marks a notable return for Herrera, who had largely stepped away from performing and instead focused on music production, licensing and video-game work.
“After 16 years away from the kit, the machine woke back up. Still runs,” Angst Fabrik wrote alongside the footage.
Herrera was a key member of Fear Factory’s classic lineup and helped define the band’s precise, mechanical sound. He also worked on music for video games, including Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Lockdown, Scarface: The World Is Yours and Iron Man 2.
His involvement with Angst Fabrik is particularly interesting given the project’s close connection to Fear Factory. The band’s name translates from German to “Fear Factory,” while Wolbers has been developing the project since 2025. An update last year revealed that 14 songs had already been written.
Former Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell was briefly associated with the project but later distanced himself from it. Meanwhile, guitarist Dino Cazares continues to lead the current Fear Factory lineup, which is preparing its eleventh studio album.
For Herrera, however, the biggest story is his return to the instrument that helped make his name. After roughly 16 years away, one of Fear Factory’s most recognizable drummers is back behind the kit—and appears ready to make some noise again.
