TAMA Drums has announced the limited-edition Starclassic Performer “Blacked Out Black Edition”, a 5-piece shell pack built around a striking all-black aesthetic.
Every external component—including the shells, lugs, and hoops—is finished in matte Flat Black. The shells also feature a deep black interior finish, which is visible through the clear batter heads on the rack and floor toms, creating a dramatic visual effect from behind the kit. A textured, matte Fiberskyn-style black bass drum resonant head completes the look.
Underneath the distinctive finish, the kit retains the Starclassic Performer’s birch/maple hybrid shell construction. The toms use 4 plies of birch with 2 inner plies of maple (6mm), while the bass drum features 5 plies of birch with 2 inner plies of maple (7mm), delivering powerful attack with warm, complex resonance.
Configuration
The MBS52AZMBS shell pack includes:
- 22″ x 16″ bass drum
- 10″ x 8″ and 12″ x 9″ rack toms
- 14″ x 12″ and 16″ x 14″ floor toms
- Two MC69 Single Tom Attachments
The bass drum is built without a tom holder base for a cleaner appearance. Cymbals, stands, pedals, and snare are sold separately.
A matching 14″ x 6.5″ Starclassic Performer Limited Edition Snare (MBSS65MBFBK) is also available separately. It features the same birch/maple hybrid construction, matte black die-cast hoops, and an EVANS Black Chrome batter head.
The “Blacked Out Black Edition” combines TAMA’s established Starclassic Performer sound with a distinctive monochromatic design aimed at players looking for a bold, cohesive stage aesthetic.
