On August 20, we reported on the launch of the Chad Smith Foundation, a new initiative by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The foundation’s mission is to ensure that all students—regardless of background—have access to high-quality music education.
In a follow-up story on October 7, we shared news of Chad’s visit to Minnesota, where he announced an exciting new partnership between the University of Minnesota and the Chad Smith Foundation. This collaboration led to the creation of the Curtis & Joan Smith Scholarship, named in honor of Chad’s parents, both proud alumni of the University.
As part of his visit, Chad hosted a meet-and-greet luncheon with fans and supporters, and later performed alongside the University of Minnesota Marching Band during the halftime show at the 2025 Homecoming game.
Making the performance even more memorable, Chad teamed up with Drum Workshop to create a one-of-a-kind drum set designed with a University of Minnesota theme. The custom kit, played and autographed by Chad during the halftime performance at Huntington Bank Stadium before a sold-out crowd, commemorated the launch of the new scholarship program.
This unique drum set is now being offered as part of a fundraiser to support the Chad Smith Foundation Scholarship, continuing Chad’s mission to inspire and empower the next generation of musicians.
