Phil Collins has revealed that he nearly died in 2024 after years of alcohol abuse, sharing that his family was called to his bedside as doctors considered whether to keep him on life support.
In an interview with The Times of London, the 75-year-old Genesis singer and drummer said he was first admitted to a hospital in Switzerland in late 2023 to treat alcohol addiction. After being discharged, he was readmitted and spent seven months in intensive care as his health rapidly deteriorated.

“My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up,” Collins said. “People were coming to say goodbye. But I don’t remember them coming. I didn’t have any idea this was going on.”
Collins said his five children rushed to be with him as doctors faced difficult decisions about his care. Looking back, he considers himself fortunate to have survived.
“I was very lucky to have come out of that,” he said. “Needless to say, I haven’t had a drink since.”
The legendary musician has also dealt with a number of other health issues in recent years, including multiple knee surgeries and mobility problems that have limited his ability to perform. Despite those challenges, Collins recently said he is feeling healthier than he has in quite some time and has even thought about returning to his home studio to record music.
Although a full return to the stage remains uncertain, Collins’ latest comments mark a hopeful chapter in his recovery after one of the most difficult periods of his life.
