TAMA has expanded its premium STAR Reserve lineup with a striking new limited-edition snare drum that combines classic tonewood character with modern performance. The STAR Reserve G-Mahogany Snare (TGHS1465S-SNT) is built around an extra-thick mahogany shell designed to deliver the warm, rich voice that has made the wood a favorite among drummers for generations.
At the heart of the drum is a 9mm, 11-ply African mahogany shell with an outer ply of beautiful Tineo wood. This thicker shell construction produces a full-bodied sound with pronounced low-end warmth, a focused midrange, and the deep, powerful resonance that thicker shells are known for. The Tineo exterior adds an elegant finishing touch, featuring a smooth vertical grain pattern and a deep reddish-brown color that gives the drum a sophisticated, boutique appearance.
To complement the shell’s naturally warm voice, TAMA equips the snare with 2.3mm Steel Mighty Hoops. The triple-flanged steel hoops provide a more open and resonant sound than die-cast hoops, allowing the mahogany shell to breathe while producing a musical sustain and enhanced tonal depth.
The drum also features Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snare Wires, redesigned with new materials, a revised plate shape, and an updated winding pattern. These improvements allow the snare wires to sit closer to the resonant head, increasing sensitivity while delivering a brighter, crisper response without sacrificing the shell’s rich character.
