Dream Theater Capture 40 Years on Film: Inside the Santiago 2026 Recording Night

Drumming News :

The plan had been locked in weeks ahead of time. Mike Portnoy had confirmed it publicly: Dream Theater would professionally record and film their April 22, 2026 show in Santiago, Chile, for a future live Blu-ray. No mystery, no surprise announcement—just a clear objective. Capture one of the biggest nights of their 40th-anniversary tour properly.

By the time the band arrived at Movistar Arena, the production crew was already deep into setup. Additional cameras were rigged throughout the venue—on cranes, fixed positions, and handheld units ready to move through the pit. Audio engineers double-checked every input.

The tour itself celebrates 40 years of Dream Theater, but that evening’s performance leaned heavily on their latest album, Parasomnia, which was being performed in full. On top of that, they were bringing back “A Change of Seasons,” a track that carried weight with long-time fans and added to the scope of the set.

The lineup made it even more significant. With Mike Portnoy back on drums alongside John Petrucci, James LaBrie, John Myung, and Jordan Rudess, there was a sense—both inside the band and among fans—that this era was worth documenting properly.

When doors opened, the crowd filled in quickly. Santiago had a reputation for being one of the most intense audiences on any tour, and the band knew it. That energy was part of why this city had been chosen in the first place. The show ran close to three hours.

The next day, Portnoy summed it up publicly in a way that matched the night itself—appreciative, but straightforward:

GRACIAS SANTIAGO!! 🇨🇱 Thank you for making last night such an Epic evening and for all of your love, passion, energy & enthusiasm! (Yes, I saw all of you jumping and moshing in the GA area in the back of the arena for the entire 3 hours!!! 🤘) We wrote another chapter in the DT history books together and we can’t wait to share the show with the rest of the world later this year… 📸 = @wolfeeliotmedia

There is no speculated date of when this live performance will be released.
