Alex Van Halen Moves Forward with Unreleased Eddie Van Halen Project

Drumming News :

Alex Van Halen is continuing work on a major posthumous project built from unreleased recordings created with his late brother, Eddie Van Halen. The material was originally intended for a follow-up to Van Halen’s 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth and reportedly includes enough music for several albums.

According to producer and longtime friend Steve Lukather, the recordings are not unfinished demos or leftover ideas. Instead, they feature completed performances from Eddie and Alex, with Eddie playing both guitar and bass on many tracks.

Lukather has been helping Alex organize and develop the recordings but has made it clear he will not add any guitar parts out of respect for Eddie’s legacy. “These are finished tracks with Ed and Al,” Lukather recently said, emphasizing the quality of the material.

One key piece is still missing: a vocalist. Neither David Lee Roth nor Sammy Hagar is involved, and Alex continues searching for the right singer to help complete the project.

While no release date has been announced, Alex Van Halen remains committed to ensuring the music honors his brother’s legacy. If completed, the project could become the closest fans will ever get to hearing a new Van Halen album featuring performances from Eddie and Alex themselves.
