In a surprising turn of events, former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has revealed that he recently underwent surgeries on his hip and femur, just weeks after his unexpected departure from the iconic heavy metal band. The musician took to Instagram on Sunday (11/18) to share the news and clarify that these medical procedures were pre-planned and unrelated to his dismissal from Slipknot.

Weinberg, known for his powerful drumming, posted a photo of himself on crutches, providing insight into the outpatient surgery that aimed to repair a torn labrum in his left hip and address a misshapen part of his femur. Despite the intense nature of the surgeries, Weinberg emphasized that these conditions had never impacted his drumming abilities. The decision to undergo surgery was made strategically during a break in his touring schedule, even if he had remained with Slipknot.

The drummer expressed his commitment to an uninterrupted return to the stage, sharing that the expected recovery period of about four months aligns with Slipknot’s next scheduled performance at Las Vegas’ Sick New World festival in April 2024. Weinberg, whose departure from Slipknot was announced on November 5th as a “creative decision,” mentioned that he had made this commitment to himself and his fans, although the news of his surgeries was kept internal until now.

In his Instagram post, Weinberg acknowledged the challenges of facing surgery and recovery, encouraging others facing difficulties to stay hopeful and maintain a positive mindset. He shared personal insights, revealing that his motivation during the downtime was to create the Mixwave instrument, allowing him to remain collaborative with his sound even while unable to play the drums.

Despite the disappointment of not being able to perform at the upcoming festival in Las Vegas, Weinberg remains optimistic about his journey to recovery. He expressed gratitude to his team of doctors and assured fans that he is already on the path back to what he loves doing the most.

Weinberg’s departure from Slipknot after nearly a decade with the band shocked fans, with the remaining members citing it as a “creative decision.” In the aftermath, the drummer received supportive messages from fellow musicians, including Mike Portnoy, Matt Sorum, and Tré Cool, as well as his father, Max Weinberg.

As Jay Weinberg embarks on his journey of recovery, fans eagerly await his return to the stage and a new chapter in his musical career.

In the meantime, Jay has released several signed items in his webstore.
