Drum industry veteran Mark Nelson has passed away.  Mark retired from Roland in January of 2023. Prior to joining Roland, Nelson served in several key management positions including: Executive Vice President Global Sales and Marketing for Drum Workshop, Inc.; Senior Vice President Global Percussion for KMC Music (Gretsch, LP, Toca, Gibraltar, Kat); and Vice President Merchandise-Drums, General Accessories, Media for Guitar Center. Additionally, he is an accomplished musician who has recorded/played drums on 10 albums and two movie soundtracks with various artists including Nick Gilder, Ian Matthews, and more. Mark has also made three appearances on American Bandstand and in six music videos.

Mark’s family has posted the following memorial:

The world lost a wonderful person on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 1:48 am, and we will never be the same without Mark Steven Nelson in our lives. It’s not often that life brings us someone as special as Mark, and we teel fortunate to have known him when he was with us.

Mark wanted us to know that he joyfully moved on from his life here in this world and is now joyfully home with his Heavenly Father and his Lord Jesus Christ.

Mark passed away after a 2-year battle with advanced pancreatic cancer since October 2021. God had special plans for Mark to complete before taking him home. With God’s divine intervention and the extraordinary medical technology of Dr. Zev Wainberg , Anne Marie Siney-Yeh and the amazing UCLA GI Oncology team; the support of his primary care physicians Dr. Jim Lindberg & wife Elena, and Dr. Ellen Song, Mark’s life was extended far beyond expected norms. We feel at peace knowing he is now cancer-free and celebrating his eternal life in heaven jubilantly playing golf and drums!

Although Mark’s life ended before we were ready, the time that he spent in our lives was intentional, memorable, and full of joy.

Announcement of a memorial service is forthcoming and will take place in Palos Verdes where Mark lived since 1984, raising his apple-of-his-eye children: Andrew (39), Lange (32) , Kai (30), and Keely (23), and living his last years with his beloved bride Elise from 2014 to 2023.

Additionally, Mark is survived by loving sisters Cindy Nelson Taylor and her husband Rod Taylor (Redmond, WA): Carrie Nelson Fletcher and her husband Skeets Fletcher (Kirkland, WA)!; and loving nieces: Christina Nelson and Brooke Taylor.
