April 18th of last year we posted the article “Joey Kramer’s Tour Replacement Named As Aerosmith Drum Tech John Douglas” posted HERE.

Aerosmith have announced what they are calling their final tour: The Peace Out Tour is set to run from September 2023 to January 2024. The band will be joined by the Black Crowes for the farewell tour.

Singer Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarists Joe Perry and Ray Tabano formed Aerosmith in 1970. Tabano left the group and was replaced by Brad Whitford before Aerosmith released their self-titled debut in 1973. The band has gone on to release 14 more studio albums, the most recent of which, Music From Another Dimension!, came out in November 2012.

Joey Kramer will not be performing on Aerosmith’s Peace Out Tour, just as he did not take part in the 2022 dates of the group’s Las Vegas residency. Instead, John Douglas will drum in Kramer’s place. In a statement, Aerosmith explained: “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”

ABOUT JOHN:

In addition to drumming John is an airbrush artist, sculptor, and drum tech. These are the two passions that John Douglas has enjoyed, pursued, and juggled his entire life. Being an accomplished drummer and artist, he has been painting and customizing drums and guitars for many of the biggest rock bands on the planet…Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N’ Roses, Pantera, Maná, Van Halen and ZZ Top to name just a few, all while writing music and performing with various bands himself.

As an in-demand drum tech, he has been a long-time drumtech and drum set collaborator for Alex Van Halen, Frank Beard, and for the man he is filling in for Joey Kramer, to name a few.

He now works behind the scenes and tours with many of these bands. While on tour he paints on canvas in his hotel rooms, exercising his creativity and love of portraiture. Primarily black and white portraits of what else…rock & roll stars. And his work has been appreciated and collected by many of the performers for which he works. Joe Perry of Aerosmith used a painting done by Douglas for the cover of his solo album Have Guitar Will Travel. While working on the Bon Jovi tour in 2018 Douglas painted a portrait of Jon Bon Jovi who loved the painting so much, he offered limited edition prints of it to his fans.

The name John Douglas may not be familiar, but his work, featured on drums, guitars, album covers and concert stages, has been seen by literally hundreds of thousands of music fans. And his rock & roll portraits on canvas are in private collections and on display in Hard Rock Cafes, Hotels and Casinos all over the world.
