Latest Drum News
Last August Drumming News Reported on the WealthyCelebrity.com article where they took a deep dive into determining who the wealthiest drummers are (HERE). Admittedly this is frivolous but it’s a question that is often a topic of discussion between drummers and fans alike.
HOWEVER! Are these numbers and chart positions even remotely accurate? Which source do you trust? An article from 2020 by MoneyInc.com – (with a name like Money Inc one would assume that they know what they are talking about, right?) interestingly their list of top 20 drummers differed in earnings and placement from the WealthyCelebrity.com article of 2022.
MoneyInc.com:
#01 | Ringo Starr | $350M |
#02 | Larry Mullen Jr. | $300M |
#03 | Lars Ulrich | $300M |
#04 | Dave Grohl | $280M |
#05 | Phil Collins | $260M |
#06 | Roger Taylor | $200M |
#07 | Don Henley | $200M |
#08 | Charlie Watts | $200M |
#09 | Nick Mason | $150M |
#10 | Joey Kramer | $100M |
#11 | Alex Van Halen | $95M |
#12 | Chad Smith | $90M |
#13 | Stewart Copeland | $80M |
#14 | Tommy Lee | $70M |
#15 | Bill Ward | $65M |
#16 | Carter Beauford | $65M |
#17 | Jon Fishman | $65M |
#18 | Rick Allen | $50M |

WealthyCelebrity.com:
#01 | Ringo Starr | $350M |
#03 | Larry Mullen Jr. | $350M |
#02 | Lars Ulrich | $350M |
#04 | Dave Grohl | $320M |
#05 | Phil Collins | $300M |
#08 | Roger Taylor | $200M |
#07 | Don Henley | $250M |
#06 | Charlie Watts | $250M |
#09 | Joey Kramer | $100M |
#10 | Travis Barker | $50M |
After comparing the differences between articles from 2020 to 2022. Ringo retained his #1 spot at the same amount. Larry Mullen Jr., Lars Ulrich, Done Henley, Charlie Watts all increased by $50M, where Dave Grohl and Phil Collins had a mere $40M increase, with Roger Taylor and Joey Kramer remaining the same with no increase.
It’s interesting as to why WealthyCelebrity.com decided to ignore Nick Mason, Alex Van Halen, Chad Smith, Stewart Copeland, Tommy Lee, Bill Ward, Carter Beauford, Jon Fishman, Rick Allen, or Tre Cool in their top 10 since they earned more than their #10 Travis Barker. It also not clear how they determined their final list.
Those discrepancies aside, there is an obvious discrepancy between some of the numbers, however it was more consistent than originally expected. Ultimately it doesn’t matter who is the most earning, all of these artists have achieved success at such a level that most musicians or anyone could never imagine, let alone experience. So now you have the ammunition to defend your stance on who’s the richest drummer.
