Paiste Welcome Matthew Arrebollo To The Artist Roster

Latest Drum News

When he was 13 years old Matt received his first drum set as a gift from a family friend who had retired from drumming. Early on he was influenced by the alternative and hard rock music of the 90’s as well as the classic rock of the 70’s and arena rock of the 80’s. Borrowing cassette tapes and CDs from his dad’s music collection he would spend hours jamming along to bands like The Cars, Weezer and Def Leppard.

In 2000 Matt was invited by friends to his first hardcore show in his hometown of Tucson. It was there he first saw and heard a drummer using a double bass drum pedal. Not long after Matt heard Slayer for the first time and everything changed. He was immediately drawn to the speed and power of Dave Lombardo’s playing, as well as the extreme sound and aesthetic of his Paiste RUDE cymbals.

After spending years playing in various hardcore and metal bands in Arizona, Matt became a founding member of Gatecreeper in 2013 and has spent the time since focusing on simple and powerful death metal drumming that serves the song, hitting as hard and playing as loud as he wants.

Matt’s Paiste journey began with a boxed set of 302’s that his parents bought for him when he was 12. Not long after he had saved enough money from his summer job to buy a 20” Paiste Dimensions Power Ride. He still has it and it has appeared on every Gatecreeper recording.
