Drumming News :
Pearl Japan has announced the unveiling of its latest innovation — Environmentally Friendly 3D Printed Drums (prototype) — at the Next Generation 3D Printer Exhibition, held at Makuhari Messe from July 9 to 11, 2025. As part of Pearl’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, this project represents a bold step toward a sustainable future for musical instrument manufacturing.
The 3D printed drum prototype will be featured at the Ricoh Japan Co., Ltd. booth, where visitors can explore this unique fusion of cutting-edge technology and eco-conscious design.

A Fusion of Innovation and Sustainability
In collaboration with Inoue Kikaku Co., Ltd., Pearl has harnessed the power of 3D printing technology to craft a drum made from recycled materials, utilizing an efficient manufacturing process that significantly reduces environmental impact. This project marks a shift in how drums can be conceptualized and produced — with a focus not only on sound and performance, but also on sustainability.
These drums are more than just an eco-friendly alternative — they represent a new generation of instruments with enhanced expressiveness and functionality, challenging traditional methods while opening the door to future innovations in music technology.
To bring this prototype to life, Pearl enlisted the talent of world-renowned drummer Shane Gaalaas, known for his dynamic performances and collaborations with global artists. In a video released on Pearl’s official YouTube channel, Gaalaas demonstrates the full musical potential of these 3D printed drums, delivering professional sound quality while highlighting the drum’s unique tone and build.
The video also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the development and manufacturing process, giving viewers insight into the craftsmanship and technological ingenuity involved in creating this one-of-a-kind instrument.
