Drumming News :
Keyboardist and composer Rachel Z has announced that acclaimed drummer Omar Hakim will step away from the band’s upcoming tour dates as he recovers from a recent illness that required hospitalization.
According to a statement released Thursday, Hakim’s health and recovery remain the band’s primary concern. While he focuses on recuperation, legendary drummer Lenny White will join the group for its June 2026 performances, with drummer Will Calhoun also stepping in for select dates.
“Omar’s health is our absolute priority right now,” said Rachel Z. “We thank everyone for their support these past few weeks, it means so much to us. We are incredibly grateful to Lenny and Will for stepping in. We look forward to seeing everyone soon.”
Adding to the all-star lineup, renowned guitarist Paul Pesco will also join the band for the upcoming tour.
The band has asked fans and members of the media to respect Hakim’s privacy during his recovery from an undisclosed illness. Supporters wishing to send well wishes are encouraged to do so through Omar Hakim and Rachel Z’s official social media channels.
