Canopus Drums has introduced the new Type-R “MAGNUM” TRM-1465 SS, a 14″ x 6.5″ snare drum featuring a 3mm-thick solid stainless steel shell. The latest addition to the Type-R series continues Canopus’ focus on hard-edged tone and exceptionally sharp response.
Rather than attempting to eliminate the pronounced overtones commonly associated with stainless steel shells, Canopus has designed the MAGNUM to turn those characteristics into a musical part of the instrument’s voice. The result is a bold, clear sound with an extended high and low frequency response, powerful low end, clear attack, and controlled resonance.
The drum also delivers deep, warm and sophisticated overtones with a vivid tonal response. Tuned higher, its character becomes even more pronounced, bringing added presence and definition to every stroke.
The MAGNUM is equipped with 10 tension die-cast hoops, Back Beat 30-strand snare wires, and Canopus’ ASPR black-coated snare head, which is exclusive to Type-R drums. The combination is designed to produce a tight, loud and powerful backbeat. A Red Lock system comes standard to help prevent tension rods from loosening.
Canopus describes the MAGNUM as a specialized instrument rather than an all-purpose snare—making it an appealing choice for drummers looking for a distinctive sound with serious presence.
