Ringo Starr Says Retirement Isn’t Happening Anytime Soon

Drumming News

Ringo Starr admits his family has stopped believing he’ll ever retire from music. “They get fed up with me,” the 84-year-old former Beatle told People, adding that every time he says he’s done, he’s back on tour again. “I get a phone call: ‘We’ve got a few gigs if you’re interested.’ OK, we’re off again!”

Now approaching 60 years in the business, Starr shows no signs of slowing down. He recently teamed up with producer T Bone Burnett for a new country album Look Up, and this summer he’ll hit the road with his All Starr Band for a 10-date U.S. tour starting June 12. The current lineup includes Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette, and Buck Johnson.

Reflecting on the band’s creation in 1989, Starr said, “We’ve been doing it ever since because I love to play live.” His love of performing was recently highlighted during Ringo & Friends at The Ryman, a CBS music special featuring Sheryl Crow, Jack White, and more. Starr also made headlines this year for revealing he’s never had pizza due to food allergies.

The tour wraps June 25 in Charlotte, NC.
