Drumming News
Alice in Chains have announced the cancellation of their remaining North American tour dates and upcoming festival appearances following a medical emergency involving drummer and founding member Sean Kinney. The band had been scheduled to kick off their 2024 tour earlier this week, but abruptly canceled their opening night in Uncasville, Connecticut, after Kinney experienced a “non-life-threatening medical emergency” shortly after soundcheck.
In a statement posted to social media, the band said, “After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals, we have made the decision to cancel our remaining upcoming festival performances and the Alice in Chains headline shows.” They emphasized that while Kinney’s condition requires immediate care, his long-term prognosis is positive.
The canceled appearances include high-profile sets at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus and Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach. The group had performed just one show — at Las Vegas’ Sick New World festival on April 27 — before the tour came to a halt.
Alice in Chains thanked fans for their support and understanding, stating that Kinney’s health remains their top priority. The band is still scheduled to perform at Ozzy Osbourne’s sold-out farewell concert, “Back to the Beginning,” in Birmingham, England on July 5, though it remains to be seen if that appearance will go ahead.
Founded in 1987, Alice in Chains is known as one of the pioneering bands of the grunge era. Kinney, along with guitarist Jerry Cantrell, remains one of the two original surviving members.
