HarperCollins Publishers has set the release date for Alex Van Halen’s highly anticipated memoir, “Brothers,” on October 22, 2024. Alex, the drummer for the iconic band Van Halen and brother of the late legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen, is ready to share the untold stories behind one of rock’s closest family partnerships.

The memoir spans 384 pages (or 720 minutes in audiobook form) and is currently available for pre-order at a price of $32. “Brothers” promises readers an intimate look into the life of Alex Van Halen, who has largely remained silent since Eddie’s passing in October 2020. The title, “The Brothers Van Halen,” hints at a journey that goes beyond the music, delving into the personal and familial aspects of their lives.

The Van Halen brothers, originally from Amsterdam, formed the band Mammoth in the early 1970s in Pasadena, California. In 1972, they joined forces with singer David Lee Roth, later adding bassist Michael Anthony Sobolewski, solidifying the classic lineup of the band.

Alex and Eddie’s musical collaboration endured for nearly six decades, with the brothers rehearsing at Eddie’s 5150 Studios almost every day, even during the band’s fallow periods between singers. Alex, in his role as the drummer, has chosen to break his silence about his late brother in “Brothers.”

The memoir reflects on their shared experiences, from their humble beginnings and struggles as immigrants to the United States to the highs and lows of their illustrious careers. Alex shares profound insights into the bond they forged over a shared record player, a small family home, and a strong work ethic. The book covers their journey through the challenges of alcoholism, success, fatherhood, and countless hours spent in the studio.

HarperCollins’ editor, Sara Nelson, describes “Brothers” as “a chronicle of family and talent and the passion to create,” positioning it as the definitive take on Eddie Van Halen’s life and death from the perspective of his closest confidant.

Eddie Van Halen, widely recognized as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, co-founded Van Halen with Alex in 1972. The band soared to fame with hit albums and songs, earning a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. “Brothers” pays homage to the familial roots that preceded the band’s legendary status.

The memoir promises an insightful exploration of the Van Halen brothers’ personal and musical journey, providing fans and readers with a unique perspective on the iconic rock duo. “Brothers” is a tribute to the enduring connection between Alex and Eddie Van Halen, offering an unprecedented glimpse into the heart of one of rock’s most influential families.
