The acquisition of Drum Workshop by Roland came as a great surprise to many of us, we have found out more about it and would like to share it with you.

We have watched as Drum Workshop has expanded its instrument line in recent years, in 2015, Drum Workshop acquired Ovation Guitars, Latin Percussion, Toca Percussion, Gibraltar Hardware and KAT Technologies. In November 2019, DW acquired Slingerland Drum Company from Gibson, and the Slingerland-branded vintage style drums.

As of 2022, Gibraltar names Reliance International Corp. as the parent company; Reliance International Corp. lists Gibraltar as a subsidiary brand.

Roland, will officially acquire the American percussion products maker Drum Workshop for $65 million under an agreement announced Monday as it moves into conventional drums.

Roland looks to reap synergies in not only product development and sales, but also production and logistics, increasing profit and efficiency.

A wholly owned Roland subsidiary to be set up in the U.S. this month will acquire all outstanding Drum Workshop shares on Oct. 3.

Drum Workshop boasts the top share of the American acoustic drum market. Its brand portfolio includes DW Drums and Hardware, as well as Pacific Drums and Percussion. The California company reported consolidated net sales of $63.41 million for 2021.

Roland will gain access to acoustic drummers — a significantly larger market than players of electronic drums — and cultivate new demand by developing products featuring Drum Workshop technology. Percussion and wind instruments brought in 19 billion yen ($133 million) to Roland in 2021, or 24% of the Japanese company’s sales. This segment will get a boost from the latest deal.
