The DW Drums Custom Shop is introducing a limited production run of Pure Walnut to its premium tone wood lineup, marking the first time the DW Collectors Series is available in 100% Walnut shells. Designed for drummers seeking a distinctive sonic personality, Pure Walnut delivers a full-bodied, musical tone with a noticeably shorter note—ideal for both live performance and studio recording.
Built with DW’s proprietary VLT™ (Vertical Low Timbre) shell construction, the vertically oriented plies reduce shell tension and allow for greater vibration, producing a lower fundamental pitch and enhanced resonance. Drums sized 10″–24″ feature 9-ply VLT shells, while snare drums are crafted with 12-ply VLT shells for added projection and articulation. Bearing edges are cut at 45 degrees on toms and 60 degrees on snares and bass drums for optimal response and tonal clarity.
Each shell is handcrafted in DW’s California Custom Shop, finished by hand, and outfitted with patented DW hardware including Suspended Tom Mounts (STM), True-Hoops, and five hardware color options. The featured configuration includes a 16″x22″ bass drum, 7″x10″ and 8″x12″ mounted toms, 13″x14″ and 15″x16″ floor toms, and a 20-lug 7″x14″ snare drum.
From studio to stage, Pure Walnut offers a warm, focused voice with controlled sustain. As part of the Collectors Series, it also provides full customization options, allowing drummers to build a kit that reflects both their sound and style.
