For more than 40 years, Terry Bozzio has stood among the most influential, innovative, and groundbreaking drummers in the world. His impact, however, goes far beyond the way he plays the drums. Throughout his career, Bozzio has continually challenged the very definition of what a drum set could be.
From his pioneering use of double-bass patterns, stacked cymbals, auxiliary hi-hats, ostinatos, and multiple pedals to his revolutionary electronic drum systems, Bozzio has pushed the instrument into territory few other drummers had imagined. In doing so, he has influenced generations of players while helping redefine the possibilities of the modern drum kit.
After his 2018 tour, Bozzio stepped away from public performance. With the exception of appearances through Drum Channel and other projects, he largely remained out of the performance spotlight, dividing his time between the United States and Japan.
Now, that is about to change.
Terry Bozzio Is Coming Back to the Stage:
Bozzio has been announced as the drummer for BEAT, the highly anticipated band featuring King Crimson and Zappa alumni Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, alongside guitar virtuoso Steve Vai.
For the band’s 40-date U.S. tour, Bozzio will once again take his place behind the kit, marking his first major public tour in more than eight years.
For fans who have followed his career, the announcement is significant. Bozzio isn’t simply returning to touring—he is returning with a lineup of musicians whose histories are deeply connected to some of the most adventurous and progressive music ever created.
But his return to the stage is only part of the story.
The Terry Bozzio Drum Collection:
Bozzio has also partnered with Donn Bennett of Don’s Drum Vault to present THE TERRY BOZZIO DRUM COLLECTION, an extraordinary selection of instruments and equipment from his personal collection.
Spanning decades of his career, the collection offers fans and drummers a rare opportunity to own pieces of Bozzio’s personal history—and, for the first time, many of these instruments are being made available to the public.
The collection includes snare drums, drumheads, Piccolo Toms, prototype instruments, DW and Mapex drums, and the famous Remo kit Bozzio used throughout the 1980s.
The Remo kit is particularly significant. It appeared in music videos featuring Mick Jagger and Andy Taylor and was also featured in Bozzio’s first home video, Terry Bozzio Solo Drums. For longtime fans, these aren’t simply drums; they are pieces of drumming history.
Many of the pieces have been personally signed by Bozzio, and every item comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by both Terry Bozzio and Donn Bennett. Perhaps most importantly, Bozzio and Bennett have made a conscious effort to keep many of the prices within reach of everyday drummers and fans.
Not everything from the collection is available yet. New pieces will be added regularly, but there is an important catch: once these instruments are gone, they’re gone forever.
