Drumming News
Seventeen-year-old Chloe Cordeiro of Warwick isn’t just hitting the books—she’s also hitting the drums every night in American Idiot, the high-octane Green Day musical running at Wilbury Theatre Group in Providence.
A student at Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Chloe has been drumming since age 3 and brings both passion and precision to the punk-fueled production. Balancing school with professional-level performance, she rehearses tirelessly, citing both Green Day’s Tré Cool and Dave Matthews Band’s Carter Beauford as key influences.
“Theater drumming is different,” she says. “You’re not just keeping the groove—you’re telling the story.”
Chloe adds her own flair, blending jazz and funk into punk rhythms. Songs like “St. Jimmy” and “Jesus of Suburbia” tested her speed and stamina, but she thrives on the challenge. Her advice to young musicians? “Be confident, stay open to every opportunity, and don’t stop playing.”
With heart, talent, and determination, Chloe is proving that punk isn’t just loud—it’s fearless.
