CRYPTA’s Luana Dametto to Drum with VIMIC at Joey Jordison Tribute Show

Drumming News :

Brazilian death metal drummer Luana Dametto of CRYPTA will take the stage with VIMIC this fall as the band honors their late co-founder Joey Jordison. Set for October 3 at Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom, the performance will serve as a long-awaited celebration of Jordison’s life, as well as the official release party for VIMIC’s long-shelved debut album, Open Your Omen.

The announcement was made jointly by VIMIC and Dametto over the weekend, confirming that she will sit behind the kit as a “special guest drummer” for the night. It’s a fitting tribute — not only to Jordison’s influential drumming style, but also to the impact he had on an entire generation of musicians, Dametto included.

Luana is an incredible talent with power, precision, and passion behind the kit, and we’re absolutely thrilled to have her sit in for this unforgettable night honoring Joey Jordison and the release of Open Your Omen.” — VIMIC

For Dametto, the opportunity is deeply personal. In her own words, Jordison wasn’t just an inspiration — he was theinspiration.

Joey was my first drum idol ever (and still my biggest),” she shared in a heartfelt statement. “At the very beginning, he was my only reference — and what a great reference I picked to have. From his blast-beating style and relentless double bass to how creative his fills and grooves were, he entirely shaped how I think about drums.”

The October 3 performance will be more than a reunion — it’s the culmination of years of anticipation. Open Your Omen was initially slated for release in 2018, but plans were derailed following the tragic death of producer Kato Khandwala (The Pretty Reckless, Pop Evil). The album’s future was further thrown into uncertainty after Jordison passed away in 2021.

However, a successful Kickstarter campaign launched earlier this year has resurrected the project, with fans rallying behind the long-lost record. The LP features previously released singles including “Simple Skeletons,” “She Sees Everything,” “My Fate,” and “Fail Me (My Temple).”

All proceeds from the Teragram Ballroom event will go toward the Joey Jordison Charitable Fund, further honoring the drummer’s legacy by supporting causes close to his heart.

Dametto reflected on the lasting influence Jordison had on her career — and her life:

He wasn’t just technical or tight — he knew how to use the drums in a uniquely creative way. He showed us what music is all about: true emotion and passion.”

She continued, describing how her admiration began as a young, introverted kid discovering music:

“I first heard about Joey while watching MTV, and also by watching some of his performances upside down on YouTube,” she recalled. “I had bought a drum kit as a hobby… but after I got to know about him and see him play, it completely changed how I saw drums, and actually made me want to pursue it as a career and take it seriously. He is the number one reason I’m here doing this.

As Open Your Omen finally sees the light of day, the October 3 show promises to be a poignant and electrifying celebration of a drummer whose influence still reverberates across the metal world. With Dametto behind the kit, the night will bridge generations of extreme metal talent — paying tribute to one of its brightest lights.
