Craviotto writes: What an amazing week! Thanks to everyone who came out to NAMM, Craviotto Day at Fork’s Drum Closet, and the Factory Tour hosted by our very own, Sam Bacco. We had a blast, sold a bunch of drums, and definitely made many new friends.
Here are a few images including Kit #1000 which is made from Timeless Timber Lake Superior Birch dated to the 1400’s! Johnny put this wood on the map making this the ultimate tribute to him, and also to Sam and the Nashville crew who continue to innovate and raise the bar for heirloom quality, handcrafted drums.
During the period from 1870 to 1920 A.D. the forests of the Great Lakes region of North America were clear-cut to make the lumber to build America’s towns and cities. These Maple, Oak, Birch and Ash trees had been growing for hundreds and hundreds of years – sheltered by a canopy of taller Pines and untouched by the hand of man. As the trees were felled each lumberjack placed his registered sawyer’s mark on the log to identify both the cutter and the year of harvest. But then, as the logs were floated down the lake to local sawmills, some became water-logged and sank to the bottom. There they rested for decades, perfectly preserved by the low temperature and oxygen content of the water. In 2002 this under-water treasure was discovered and reclaimed by the Lake Superior Water-Logged Lumber Company. Made from the only wood of this type, vintage and quality that still exists on Earth, this Craviotto solid shell snare drum has been custom-crafted from a single piece of this hand-selected “Timeless Timber’ to create a totally unique musical instrument that is unmatched in tone, appearance and performance.
Some friends we met at NAMM happened to meet a local Nashville Transportation Driver who was also a drummer. So, he brought them to the Craviotto factory tour in his bus! How fun is that!!
I had the chance to meet and hang with Memphis drummer and Diamond Drums endorser, Jason Cooper. Great guy, great drummer!
