The German Bundestag commissioned the Berlin vibraphonist Oli Bott to compose a 60-minute homage to Haydn’s work on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Germany’s anthem. The result is a collection of 13 works that deals with the hymns of Haydn, Eisler and Beethoven, as well as the history of Germany over the last 100 years.
Together with his jazz ensemble, Oli Bott has recorded a musical homage on the vibraphone, which is intended to musically reflect the history of Germany and its national anthem.
The music was recorded in December 2021 together with Anna Carewe (cello), Markus Stockhausen (trumpet), Oliver Potratz (double bass) and Eric Schaefer (drums) in the Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin. The finished CD was produced by the German Bundestag in time for the 17th Federal Assembly in February 2022.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the Deutschlandlied as the national anthem by Reich President Friedrich Ebert in 1922, Oli Bott was invited to accompany the history of the Deutschlandlied in a series of compositions, embedding it in the sequence of preceding, accompanying or competing anthems up to the ” European anthem” of our day.

Oli boot:
Oli Bott studied vibraphone and composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston with teachers such as Gary Burton and Bob Brookmeyer, graduating summa cum laude. Since then freelance musician in Berlin, several scholarships from the Berlin Senate, commissions to compose his own jazz orchestra, radio and television recordings of numerous concerts in Germany and abroad.
Eric Schaefer:
Drummer and composer Eric lives in Berlin and works internationally with a number of his own ensembles as well as as a sideman.
Eric has won the Jazz-Echo Award 6 times so far with different bands and as best national drummer.
He teaches drums at Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden since 2008.
About 30 CD recordings, commissioned compositions and numerous radio productions document the large variety of his creative work.
