Matthew McDonough returns with Mudvayne

Latest Drum News :

The metal band Mudvayne is returning from a 12-year hiatus, with all origional band members — vocalist Chad Gray (Mudvayne, Hellyeah), guitarist Greg Tribbett (Mudvayne, Hellyeah, Audiotopsy), bassist Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne, Korn, Soften the Glare) and drummer Matthew McDonough (Mudvayne, Audiotopsy, MiKroNaught). The band formed in 1996 and quickly gained attention with their musicianship and with their visual live performances.

McDonough (a.k.a. Spag, Spug, Mjdawn) is credited with being the driving force for the vision of Mudvayne including providing techno mixes that are included with their recordings. Mudvayne is noted for its musical complexity, complex meters, and polyrhythms. The band’s music contains what McDonough calls “number symbolism”, where certain riffs correspond to lyrical themes. Mudvayne has incorporated elements of death metal, jazz, jazz fusion, progressive rock, speed metal, thrash metal and world music.

Revolver.com posted the following in their article: Now, those dreams look to be coming to fruition as the band has announced performances at several of Danny Wimmer Presents’ rock and metal festivals: Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival (September 10th-12th in Mansfield, Ohio), Louder Than Life (September 23rd-26th in Louisville, Kentucky), Aftershock (October 07th-10th in Sacramento, California) and Welcome to Rockville (November 11th-14th in Daytona Beach, Florida).

Wimmer commented, “In our fan surveys, Mudvayne has consistently been one of the most requested bands — even though they weren’t an active band! We’ve been working for years to make this happen, so when I got the call that they’d finally take a meeting, [DWP Executive VP & Talent Buyer] Gary Spivack and I jumped at the chance to fly to Vegas. We sat down for dinner with Mudvayne, their lawyer Eric German, manager Diony Sepulveda and agent Ryan Harlacher — the band hadn’t even been in the same room together for 10 years — and pleaded our case for why the time was right for this to happen. We were hoping to announce this in 2020, we’re fortunate enough to be able to do it in 2021, and DWP is super pumped to have Mudvayne exclusively at all four of our festivals this year.”

The question for all fans is, will this be their official return, or will it only be these four shows?
