Photographer Rob Shanahan visits Neil Peart’s final kit and offers limited print

Latest drum news :

Photographer Rob Shanahan spent an afternoon with John Good, Vice President of DW Drums where they talked about Neil Peart’s R40 Drum Kit. The video includes close up shots of Neil Peart’s final set that is now on display at the DW Factory.

Rob wrote in a March 4th email: “Neil Peart’s R40 “Monsters from the Deep”” –

I sat down with John Good, VP of DW Drums to pay tribute to our pal Neil Peart and the amazing R40 drum kit Neil played on the final RUSH tour.

The history of the wood used for the drum shells for this kit is mind-boggling! 1500 years ago a tree started growing in the Carpathian Mountains. 500 years ago this tree fell into the Olt River in present-day Romania.

In 2014 that log was raised, and as word got out and it’s legend spread, John Good, the maestro of wood, the wood whisperer (as Neil would affectionately call him) had to have it. Hence the slogan used by DW “1500 Years in the Making”…

Next week…I’ll share the final photo of the drum kit, drum riser, and the ultra-cool road cases before the display was completely encased in plexiglass.

Stay inspired and keep rocking,

– RS
