Former Journey drummer says he would rejoin band “in a heartbeat”

Journey has been going through some lineup changes over the last year that has stunned fans. While many were excited when the band announced the return of bass player, and former ‘American Idol’ judge, Randy Jackson, plenty were upset to hear about the issues within the group that led to the firing of Ross Valory and Steve Smith. However, with Smith now gone, the band’s former drummer, Deen Castronovo says he’s ready to make his return.

Deen Castronovo was fired from Journey back in 2015, ending his 17 year run as the group’s drummer. Since then he has been performing with the band, The Dead Daisies, but recently said he would be willing to rejoin Journey if asked. “I would have done it in a heartbeat. Are you kidding? Had it all worked out, had it all been planned right…God, are you kidding? That’s where I feel the most at home,” said Castronovo.

While Castronovo claims he did receive a text from Neal Schon when changes were being made, there was no formal discussion about rejoining the band. For now, Castronovo plans to continue working with his current band. However, with the door now open, Castronovo could possibly one day return to Journey.
