Drumming News :
The life and legacy of Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart will take center stage at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival with the world premiere of Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple.
Directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, the 96-minute documentary premieres at TIFF on September 16, followed by a public screening September 19. It will air on Canada’s CBC on September 23 as part of The Passionate Eye.
The film features Rush bandmates Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, along with legendary drummers Stewart Copeland of The Police, Danny Carey of Tool, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gavin Harrison. The musicians reflect on Peart’s career, influence and lasting impact on rock drumming.

Peart joined Rush in 1974 and quickly became central to the band’s identity as both drummer and primary lyricist. Celebrated for his technical precision, elaborate drum setups and philosophical lyrics, he influenced generations of musicians.
Peart died January 7, 2020, at age 67 after a battle with glioblastoma.
The documentary arrives as Lee and Lifeson continue Rush’s legacy on the Fifty Something tour with drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold. Nilles has spoken about approaching Peart’s legendary parts with respect while finding room to bring her own musical voice to the performances.
With rare performances and reflections from musicians who knew and admired him, Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple offers a tribute to one of rock’s most influential and respected drummers.
