WINNIPEG — A stretch of Bellavista Crescent in Winnipeg’s St. James neighborhood now carries the honorary name Brent Fitz Way, celebrating the Winnipeg-born drummer whose career has taken him around the world.
The street, between Voyageur Avenue and Rogan Drive, was renamed Friday in honor of Fitz, who has performed with major rock artists including Slash, Alice Cooper, Gene Simmons, Theory of a Deadman and Streetheart.

Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham called Fitz “an inspiration” and said the neighborhood helped shape a young man who “dreamed big, worked hard, and went on to become one of the most respected drummers in rock music.”
Fitz said growing up in St. James played a major role in his success.
“Everything I learned from that street and that neighbourhood and this city is all the tools I’ve been using forever,” he said.
Fitz described the area as his “superpower corner,” recalling childhood memories of friends, family and music.
Wearing a “Made in Winnipeg” shirt at the ceremony, Fitz thanked his family, teachers and the city for helping shape his career.
“I love this city. I love everything that it’s taught me,” he said. “I hope I’m a good servant to the city.”
The honorary street naming recognizes Fitz’s international musical success while celebrating his lasting connection to the Winnipeg neighborhood where his journey began.
