A 1972 Jensen Interceptor III once owned by legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham is set to go under the hammer on July 25 through Iconic Auctioneers at Silverstone Circuit in the U.K.
The Reef Blue grand tourer, featuring a crimson leather interior, is expected to sell for £40,000–£50,000 (approximately $53,000–$66,000). The car was first registered to John Bonham Enterprises Ltd. on March 18, 1972, and is powered by its original 6.3-liter Chrysler V8 engine paired with a TorqueFlite automatic transmission.
Bonham’s ownership of the Interceptor is well documented, and many believe it could be the same car he reportedly crashed into a ditch in September 1977 after leaving a pub in Worcestershire. Although that connection has not been officially confirmed, the story has appeared in multiple biographies about Led Zeppelin and its members.
The Interceptor was discovered in barn-find condition before its current owner commissioned a comprehensive restoration between 2020 and 2023. More than £83,000 was invested in the rebuild, returning the classic British grand tourer to its original Reef Blue finish while completely refurbishing the interior and mechanical components.
With its combination of celebrity provenance, extensive restoration, and iconic British styling, Bonham’s former Interceptor represents a rare opportunity for collectors of classic automobiles and rock memorabilia alike.
