Pat Petrillo’s “Contemporaneous” Blends Genres, Grooves, and Greatness New album drops July 2025 on Innervision Records

Drumming News :

Renowned drummer Pat Petrillo returns with a bold, genre-defying statement in his new album Contemporaneous, a vibrant fusion of musical styles that proves groove knows no boundaries. Releasing July 2025 on Innervision Records, the album brings together an all-star lineup of musicians from both coasts to deliver a soulful, high-energy instrumental experience.

From the first downbeat, Contemporaneous evokes the eclectic spirit of Snarky Puppy, Weather Report, and Grover Washington Jr., reimagined through Petrillo’s masterful drumming and visionary direction. Though rhythm is at the heart of the album, it’s Petrillo’s ability to weave complex grooves into cohesive, emotionally charged songs that truly shines.

The cast is as impressive as the music: guitar legends Nile Rodgers, Oz Noy, Chieli Minucci, and Blake Aaron deliver tasty riffs and textures; keyboardists Chris Fischer (Spyro Gyra) and Matt Rohde (NBC’s The Voice) add sonic color; while bassists Gary Grainger and Scott Ambush lay down irresistible low-end foundations. A powerhouse horn section featuring Steve Jankowski, Mike Cordone, Scott Mayo, Tom Timko, and Phillip Wack adds punch and polish to the record’s expansive soundscape.

Across ten tracks, Petrillo explores a rich palette of Jazz/Rock Fusion, Funk, Blues, Neo Soul, World, and New Orleans grooves—all stitched together by his deep musical sensibility. Aptly titled, Contemporaneous is more than an album—it’s a musical testimony that stylistic variety, when rooted in authenticity, can coexist harmoniously in the same space and time.

“This is the sound of everything I’ve absorbed over the years,” says Petrillo. “I’m not trying to be anything other than myself—Contemporaneously.”

The result is a fresh yet familiar listening journey that defies easy categorization but feels right at home in any era.
