Drumming News
Scott Devours, Roger Daltrey’s longtime solo band drummer, has been named The Who’s new drummer following a difficult split with Zak Starkey, the band’s longest-serving drummer. In an emotional Instagram letter, Devours expressed gratitude and acknowledged the heavy responsibility of stepping into such iconic shoes.
“I’m processing a tsunami of emotions,” he wrote, thanking fans for their support while recognizing the sadness many feel over Starkey’s departure. Devours called it “a strange contradiction” to have his career’s biggest moment shadowed by someone else’s loss.
Starkey was first fired in April, briefly rehired, then dismissed again in May amid disputed reasons. Devours, who filled in briefly in 2013, asked fans to give him a chance.
“There are no bigger shoes to fill than those behind Pete and Roger,” he said. Devours promised to honor The Who’s legacy—including past drummers like Keith Moon and Zak Starkey—and to give everything on the band’s likely final US tour.
Ending with humor and humility, he said, “Now I’m going to go throw up, lol.” Devours is ready to carry The Who’s legendary sound forward despite the challenging circumstances.
