Drumming News
The legendary Zildjian Cymbal Company has officially announced the launch of the first-ever U.S. Young Drummer of the Year competition — a groundbreaking opportunity for rising percussion talent across the country. Modeled after the long-running and highly respected UK Young Drummer of the Year, this U.S. edition is set to become a major platform for the next generation of drummers.
Celebrating Young Talent
Aimed at aspiring drummers aged 16 or under, the competition puts a spotlight on creativity, technique, and pure passion behind the kit. Whether you’re a groove master, a chops-heavy soloist, or a pocket player with a unique feel, this is your chance to shine on a national stage.
The contest is hosted by drum industry veteran and founder of the UK edition, Mike Dolbear, whose mission has always been to provide young drummers with high-level performance opportunities and exposure.
How It Works
The competition begins with an online entry period, open now through June 16th, 2025, during which young drummers are invited to submit their video entries. From there, a panel of respected judges will narrow down submissions to the Top 40 finalists, announced on July 14th, followed by the Top 10 on August 4th. These finalists will be invited to perform live at the U.S. Young Drummer of the Year Finals on October 12th, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee.
