In a surprising turn of events, Grammy-winning heavy metal band Slipknot has announced the departure of drummer Jay Weinberg, who has been with the band for the past ten years. The news was revealed on the band’s official website, leaving fans both shocked and intrigued about the future of the iconic group.

Weinberg, who had replaced the band’s original drummer, Joey Jordison, in 2013, played a pivotal role in Slipknot’s evolution over the past decade. The departure of Jordison marked a significant change in the band’s history, and Weinberg was instrumental in maintaining the band’s distinctive sound and energy. Slipknot acknowledged his contributions in their statement: “We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style, or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums, and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it.”

While the band did not disclose the circumstances surrounding Weinberg’s departure, it was made clear that Slipknot is committed to evolving creatively. The statement read, “Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”

Weinberg had recently performed his “last show of 2023” at the Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Toluca, Mexico, on Friday (Nov 3nd), marking the end of an eventful year of live performances.

Jay Weinberg, the son of legendary drummer Max Weinberg of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band fame, joined Slipknot in December 2013. He made his official debut on the band’s fifth studio album, “.5: The Gray Chapter,” released in 2014, which garnered critical acclaim and multiple Grammy nominations.

Weinberg continued to play a vital role in the band, contributing to the success of Slipknot’s 2019 album, “We Are Not Your Kind,” and their most recent release in 2022, “The End, So Far,” both of which topped Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart.

The departure of Weinberg raises questions about the future direction of Slipknot and who will fill the drummer’s role. As of now, the band has not disclosed any information about potential replacements or their future plans.

The band’s announcement comes as a surprise to fans, and many are left wondering what’s in store for Slipknot and who will take the place of Jay Weinberg, a drummer who played an essential part in the band’s legacy over the last ten years.
