Robbie Bachman of the legendary back Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) has passed away at the age of 69.  As a young boy Robbie practiced the drums at home, his brother Randy who was impressed with his played asked Robbie to join his band, and Brave Belt.  After the addition of members of Chad Allen and Fred Turner they changed their name to Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

As BTO they released 5-top 40 albums, 6-top 40 singles.  He stayed with the band from 1973 – to 1979 but when the band decided to reunite in 1984 Robbie refused to take part due to a licensing dispute with his brother. Once resolved he joined the tour starting in 1988 through 1991. By 2004 Robbie went into semi-retirement and remained that way until his death.

Robbie’s brother Randy took to Twitter to announce Robbie’s passing:

Another sad departure. The pounding beat behind BTO, my little brother Robbie has joined Mum, Dad & brother Gary on the other side. Maybe Jeff Beck needs a drummer! He was an integral cog in our rock ‘n’ roll machine and we rocked the world together.

He is survived by his wife.
