It has been 3-years since Neil Peart died on this day. Randy Black, a natural born Canadian, one of the most accomplished drummers of today paid tribute to his hero Neil Peart by recording his performance to one of Rush’s most famous songs.
In a Social Media post Randy wrote the following:
Some were asking for the complete clip of “My tribute to one of the greatest!”
Those who know me know I wasn’t a Metal drummer my whole career! A huge reason I’m where I am today is due to my early obsession/connection with RUSH, Neil Peart, and my old band CLICK.
As a young drummer growing up in Canada, you just HAD to know who RUSH and Neil Peart was. I’ll never forget the day my older brother brought home RUSH’s album “Fly By Night” The first song I heard was Anthem… I was blown away! From that moment on, I was hooked! I was just mesmerized by how perfectly everything he played fit the music as well as the energy he put out while doing it; the man hit those drums really hard and still sounded so refined!
I did my best but didn’t copy note for note what he played in this song, and the truth is, it’s because it wasn’t in my ability to do so. I hope you enjoy my attempt to do the song justice.
