It’s a bit early but we are so excited we couldn’t wait to unwrap these presents. The first group of judges and special guest judges for the 2023 Hit Like A Girl contest have just been announced.

Frank Zummo: He is one of the busiest, versatile and passionate drummers out there today. He has worked with countless artists through the years such as Thenewno2, theStart, Dead By Sunrise and Krewella, and is currently the drummer of the rock band SUM 41 and EDM Artist Kayzo. Zummo filled in for Tommy Lee for a string of Mötley Crüe shows and is one of the founding members of Street Drum Corps.

Migdalia van der Hoven: She is an International Award winning Mexican drummer currently touring with SIX the Musical across the UK. She is known for her groove, sensitivity and versatility across multiple genres such as funk, jazz, latin, pop and Christian music. Migdalia has performed in the UK with Scott Stroman, Adam Glasser, Grifter Kid and The Midnight Raiders, Russell Brand, Women in Jazz and on the BBC. She was part of the Beantown Jazz Festival in the USA and is currently a member of the National Jazz Orchestra of Mexico where she performs and also supports young women through scholarships to continue their studies in jazz. She also offers masterclasses internationally.

Chris Coleman: In 1999, Chris graduated with honors from the Drummer’s Collective. He was offered a scholarship to Berklee School of Music, was accepted into Manhattan School of Music, and received a recommendation from Ed Soph to attend North Texas State. He opted instead to return to his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan to start full-time ministry and ATW Global. He moved briefly to Cleveland to join the instructional staff at Christian Music Academy. December 8, 2001, Chris was honored to win 1st place in the National Drum Competition sponsored by Guitar Center, Chris has participated in several major gospel recordings, including Bishop Eddie Long, William Murphy Ministries and others, Chris is now playing for R&B artist Rachelle Ferrell, as well as touring, promoting, & performing with his band. Chris also participated in the 2005 & 2006 “Drummers 4 Jesus” events. He is recognized in the Modern Drummer Mag for the Sept’05’ & June’06’ issues. He has toured withChaka Kahn, Rachelle Ferrell, and in 2010 Chris appeared with big success at the Modern Drummer Festival and PASIC, and as of 2019, the drummer for Beck. And today you can see him tearing it up on his YouTube page “c2 Experience”.

Kristina Rybalchenko: She was born in the Russian city of Khabarovsk and began playing the drums when she was 14 years old. She had professional musical training on the xylophone and as a drummer in well-known local cover bands. She uploads drum cover videos to her own YouTube channel, Instagram, and TikTok accounts. Kristina relocated to Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2017.

Christin Neddens: She studied drums in Europe and in Los Angeles at University of Southern California with Peter Erskine and Jeff Hamilton. Based in Hamburg, she works as a freelance drummer, composer and international touring artist in a huge range of musical settings. Christin already worked with Nils Landgren, the NDR Big Band, Helge Schneider (and many more), played in Carolin Kebekus’ TV show band and performed on international, well-known festivals (e.g. Elbjazz & Überjazz Festival Hamburg (GER), Big Band Festival Imatra (Finland), Respublica Festival (Ukraine), Jazzfestival Grahamstown (South Africa), Port Townsend Jazzfestival (USA) Colours Festival Lomé (Togo, Westafrica). Christin writes music for her Fusion-Surf band “Orange Line“ (album release in fall 2020) and focuses at the moment on her solo performance program.

J-Rod Sullivan: In 2006, J-rod had begun posting drum cover videos to YouTube and was starting to build a fan base. He went on to study music performance at the Atlanta Institute of Music, graduating in 2012 – and he joined the band The 4 Korners in 2013. Today, J-rod’s an unquestionably talented drummer, as well as a programmer, arranger, and producer: he does it all, and then some. He has played wth The 4 Korners, Jidenna, Jeffrey Osborne, Avery Sunshine, Johnny Gill, Frank Mccomb, Jeff Bradshaw, Mike Phillips, Sevyn Streeter, Xscape, Bebe Winans, Everette Harp, Nick Colionne, Kenny Latimore, Chantae Cann, Byron Cage, Alex Bugnon, Ronnie Laws, and is currently the drummer for Jeffrey Osborne, Avery Sunshine, & The 4 Korners.

Emma Taylor: She currently is the drummer for Ilona Mahieu, she is  teacher, author offering a free E-book download on her Instragm/Linktr titled “The New Drummers Toolkit” that features lots of videos for grooves, kit set up, how to hold the sticks, and much more. Melanie DiLorenzo (A.K.A.: Melanie Jo): She majored in Jazz drumming at The University of North Florida, studying drums with Jazz legend Danny Gottlieb. While attending UNF she was playing and touring around Florida and much of the South East with various artists and bands. After graduating UNF Melanie packed up and moved to sunny Los Angeles, Ca. For the short time she has been living in L.A. she has played gigs at all of L.A.’s famous clubs such as The Whiskey A Go Go, The Viper Room, and The House of Blues. In 2015 she started touring with Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top in his solo band Billy Gibbons and the BFG’s. They toured all over the U.S. and played at the 2015 Havana Jazz Festival in Cuba. From that tour they made a documentary Billy Gibbons and the BFG’s: Cuba about their historic trip to Havana. In summer of 2018 she played with Slash, Nancy Wilson, Robert Randolph and more at the Beastly Ball. She is currently the touring drummer for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.
